Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

Eligibility 

  • For this workshop, you must be between the ages of 22-35 at the time of the workshop. We are not able to modify the age or other eligibility requirements. If you do not meet all eligibility requirements, there may be other Young Pacific Leaders (YPL) events you would be eligible for. Thank you for your understanding and consideration.

  • Yes, If you are employed in these areas, volunteer for an organization, or create media and stories, please state on the application how your activities impact your local community, how they relate to the workshop, and how you might use the information presented during the workshop in your future media-related activities. We welcome applications from people in a wide variety of media sectors, such as newspapers and tv, business, nongovernmental organizations (NGO), government, community groups, and others.

  • Yes, teachers are eligible if their instructional areas relate to the themes of the workshop.

Application Process

  • First, send us an email to let us know that you submitted an incomplete application. Second, complete another application on the website.

  • No, selection decisions are based on information provided on the application.

  • Yes, during the application review we will create a shortlist of applicants. The review process includes evaluating eligibility criteria as well as representation across the region (based primarily on citizenship). We will notify applicants of their status—selected, alternate, not selected—by April 30, 2024. If a space opens up, we will contact alternate applicants to see if they are available to participate in the workshop.

  • We will send email notifications by April 30, 2024.

Travel and Passport 

  • Yes, you can apply but if you are accepted for the workshop you will need to renew the passport and receive the new passport in order to attend the workshop. Please ensure you will have adequate time to renew and receive the passport. We highly recommend starting this process within 2-3 days of being accepted to the workshop.

  • Your passport must have at least six months validity beyond the workshop dates. Please visit the Kingdom of Tonga Visa and Immigration page for full details: https://www.gov.to/visa-and-immigration/

Participant Documentation

  • If your application is accepted, we will email an acceptance letter to you. You may provide the acceptance letter to your employer. If you need any additional documentation, please send us an email at the Contact link on the website.

  • We will provide funding for all workshop related expenses, including travel to the workshop in Tonga, accommodation (shared), food. Participants are required to comply with air carrier ticket requirements, including baggage and baggage weight. We will purchase your air ticket. We will provide further details to persons who are accepted to participate in the workshop.

  • Yes, we will have an online workshop session in August 2024 (date to be announced). We expect many networking opportunities for participants, including discussion boards and other forums to allow participants to connect.
